Has anyone played Dungeons & Dragons Online? If so, what do you think - what do you like, what don't you like?
I'm thinking of giving it a shot, it looks interesting and I keep hearing good things about it.

I played it briefly when it first came out, and it was a fairly linear MMO at the time, which turned me off a bit. Not sure if subsequent patches/additions/expansions might have improved things. It was a fun game to play with friends, but I'm not sure how the solo life might change things. There were a few neat gameplay dynamics I appreciated, so overall I'd give it a 6.5/10. Not bad, but nothing spectacular.

I, too, found it to be rather meh. It's another WOW clone, but with a D&D overlay. As far as WOW clones goes it's a fairly good one, so if you like those go for it. But don't expect to find anything particularly surprising and inovative.

I ended up mucking with Guild Wars, and while it looked pretty and ran smooth I was pretty put off by the whole Diablo-esque setup. I wasn't keen on having towns be the only place where people can come across one another, and that every time you step out of a town you're in your own instance with no chance of seeing anything other than NPCs unless you brought PCs with you in a party. It just felt... empty.
And from the descriptions of DDO you've given I'm not too enthused about that either. I have a hard time getting interested in mazes and trolls I guess. I need sci fi tech, giant fuck-off guns, big cities and all that to really stay interested.
